Within her practice Nancy transcribes interior monologues regarding fleeting moments into emotive, enigmatic drawings and paintings. Driven by her desire to investigate the world around her.

Observed subtleties are translated into amalgamations of gestural marks, characterized forms and distinctive motifs; poetically synthesised together, dialogues are formed between rhythmic, tonal, and spatial relationships.

Embodying sensations of seeing, she instinctively draws upon perceived distinctive passages and directional tensions within subjects, guided by her feeling for tone within the structures of the spaces and subjects which she observes.  Through doing so she punctuates observed rhythms and creates rhythm within her constructed works.

Within sketchbooks, she draws instinctively, transcribing her initial sensations of seeing and feeling the environments which she navigates, feeling for rhythms through space and capturing the distinctive forms and shapes which she is naturally drawn to. She translates these drawings further, often choreographing different elements together, merging and rearranging them, reminiscent of the way in which we store memories. Through this process, these moments of transience and cyclical elements of life are transposed into theatrical instances, creating a sense of otherness and an intrigue in the unknown. Her works evoke feelings of familiarity and distance simultaneously. They are both intuitive and considered.
